Ilian Rachov Bulgaria
Ilian Rachov began his artistic career in 1988 by producing realistic copies of medieval orthodox icons and frescos. At this time he re-discovered many old and forgotten techniques for the engraving of golden icons, and progressed to his own personal style in the ikonography field with a unique color technique and perfect engravings. The style made him popular outside the Bulgarian borders, bringing him many enthusiastic followers.
In 1996 he received a decoration, according to which, "The icons painted by Ilian Rachov show an esthetic and rich effect".
In 1997 he was awarded the "Golden phenomenon of Bulgaria" for his contribution to the figurative arts.
Some of Ilian`s icons are now the properties of many churches and museums, including:
The Monastery of Saint Mina in Sofia, The Historical Museum of Chiprovzi,
The Saint George Church in Sofia, and The Rila Monastery,
Many others are in private collections in Rome, at the Vatican, Palermo, Naples, Milan, New York, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Paris, Strasbourg, Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, London, Madrid, Barcelona, Caracas, Tokyo, Moskow and Vienna.
Ilian has participated in demonstrations of the iconographic technique in 8 expositions in Hamburg, Germany - realized thanks to the Consul of honor of Bulgaria - Mr. Doc. Imeyer and the Bulgarian-German Association. His portraits and paintings, inspired by the great masters of the Renaissance, belong to numerous accredited diplomats in Bulgaria. In 1999 he painted the portrait of the wife of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria - Mrs. Antonina Stojanova.
