Jef Gielen Belgium
J.W. Gielen, born in 1953 in Leut in the Belgian province of Limburg, has been, from his childhood onward without academic education, but through self-tuition, developing his creative imagination through, for some, somewhat unusual paintings.
"Usually I try to place everything in an optical perspective, in such a way that the illusion is created that everything is balancing in a seemingly impossible equilibrium, thus actually creating a new geometric world"
Sometimes slightly bordering on surrealism, it possesses something mysterious, a tromp l´oeil effect (optical illusion) if you will, in which imaginary situations are mixed with realities and the objects with their shadows lead a life of their own.
